Day #28: Lumen Gentium 16

We talked about Catholics (article 14) and non-Catholic Christians (article 15), so today the Dogmatic Constitution on the Church speaks of the way that non-Christians relate to the “People of God”.  This paragraph controversially states that the Muslims “along with us adore the one and merciful God.”  Of course, what the Church is not saying here is that Muslims define God in the same way.  This is an important distinction to keep in mind when reading this passage.

Here are the Scripture citations:

125 Cf. Rom. 9:4-5

126 Cf. Rom. 11:28-29.

127 Cf. Acts 17:25-28.

128 Cf. 1 Tim. 2:4.

129 Cf Rom. 1:21, 25.

130 Mk. 16:16.

And the footnotes:

(18) Cfr. S. Thomas, Summa Theol. III, q. 8, a. 3, ad 1.

(19) Cfr. Epist. S.S.C.S. Officii ad Archiep. Boston.: Denz. 3869-72.

(20) Cfr. Eusebius Caes., Praeparatio Evangelica, 1, 1: PG 2128 AB.
