Today in the Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, we continue our reflection on the nature of the liturgy which is central to understanding all that follows.
Article 7 is one of those oft-misused passages from the document in its discussion of the various ways Christ is present in the Liturgy. Note that is says Christ is present “when the Church prays and sings.” Some incorrectly interpret this passage to mean that Christ is present in the congregation in the same way as in the Eucharist. This is one of those cases where looking at what the document actually says can do wonders to clearing up misconceptions.
Article 8 then briefly talks of how the earthly liturgy is a foretaste of the heavenly liturgy.
