In the Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy today, we finish up the first section of Chapter I on the nature of the liturgy and it’s role in the life of the Church.
We need to come to the liturgy with the proper disposition in order for it to “be able to produce its full effects” (article 11). In addition to the liturgy (the “public work”) Christians also need a personal prayer life (article 12). Popular devotions are a good way to foster this individual prayer life, provided they are in harmony with the liturgical seasons and direct people to the liturgical life of the Church (article 13).
