Day #84: Sacrosanctum Concilium 55-58

Returning again to the Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, we continue looking at pastoral recommendations to foster participation in the liturgy.

Article 55 opens the door to increased usage of Communion under both Species by reiterating what is said in the Council of Trent.  Article 56 encourages the fiathful to view the Liturgy of the Word and the Liturgy of the Eucharist as “one single act of worship.”  In other words, you can’t just go to one or the other.

Article 57 significantly widens the parameters for priests to concelebrate Mass and article 58 calls for such changes to be reflected in the Roman Missal.

One footnote today:

[40] Session XXI, July 16, 1562. Doctrine on Communion under Both Species, chap. 1-3: Condlium Tridentinum. Diariorum, Actorum, Epistolarum, Tractatuum nova collectio ed. Soc. Goerresiana, tome VIII (Freiburg in Br., 1919), 698-699.
