In today’s reading from the Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, we hear more calls for revision of the rites of the sacraments. This includes a bit more on Baptism (articles 69-70), Confirmation (article 71), Reconciliation (article 72), Anointing of the Sick (articles 73-75), and Holy Orders (article 76). Marriage is part of tomorrow’s reading.
Article 73 signifies an important shift by saying that Extreme Unction “may also and more fittingly be called ‘anointing of the sick’.” It also highlights that it “is not a sacrament for those only who are at the point of death.” This passAge thus broadens the application of this sacrament beyond what many had previously perceived it to be.
