In today’s reading from the Pastoral Constitution on the Church in the Modern World, we continue on with the introduction.
Article 5 continues to lay out where the human race as at — a time of immense and rapid development and change. Article 6 speaks to how this change impacts the “traditional local communities” of society, such as the family.
It is hard to believe such statements were written 50 years ago when they speak so pointedly to out culture today:
Thus a man’s ties with his fellows are constantly being multiplied, and at the same time “socialization” brings further ties, without however always promoting appropriate personal development and truly personal relationships.
And this was written before the age of the internet and social media.
