Continuing on in our chapter on culture in the Pastoral Constitution on the Church in the Modern World, today we begin Section 2 on “Some Principles for the Proper Development of Culture.”
Today’s reading really underscores the oft-misunderstood point that our prioritizing heavenly things actually makes us more inclined to take serious responsibility for the things of the earth — not less so.
We also see today the point that we needn’t throw the baby out with the bathwater, as the saying goes. Even though there are many in our society who fixate on “data” and ignore the spiritual implications, that does not take away from the good that comes out of scientific inquiry.
