Day #250: Apostolicam Actuositatem 1

Having just completed the Council’s document on the Ministry and Life of Priests, today we shift our attention to the laity and the Decree on the Apostolate of the Laity.

Apostolicam Actuositatem opens with an Introduction.  Here the Council Fathers give the lay of the land and emphasize the important role the laity has in the apostolic work of the Church.  The intro also succinctly states the purpose of the document:

“In this decree the Council seeks to describe the nature, character, and diversity of the lay apostolate, to state its basic principles, and to give pastoral directives for its more effective exercise.”
