With only three documents left to read, today we begin the Decree on Ecumenism.
Previously, we have read Nostra Aetate, the Council’s document on the Church’s relationship with non-Christian religions. Ecumenism addresses the Church’s relationship with other Christian communities.
“The restoration of unity among all Christians is one of the principal concerns of the Second Vatican Council.”
This quote starts of the Introduction and offers strong confirmation of their goal for the document. The Council Fathers admit the scandal that disunity causes and the aim to give Catholics the “ways and means” to respond to God’s call for unity amongst Christians.
